Sister of Honua… Maria Teresa Valenzula
is
an
indigenous traditional healer and spiritual teacher. She comes
from a lineage of shamanic healers and curanderas of the Sierra
Madre,Chihuahua, Mexico. She is of mixed heritage from three
Meso-American cultures: Mexican, Raramuri (Tarahumara) Indian and
Peruvian. She grew up in the Copper Canyon in Chihuahua, Mexico, where
she was trained in the shamanic traditions of her grandmother and her
father.
Maria Teresa has a wealth of knowledge in Meso-American wisdom, myths,
and traditional forms of indigenous medicine and healing. As a
multi-lingual “bridge” person she travels throughout the United States,
Mexico, and Central America sharing her wisdom, drawing on her
heritage, life experience and traditional training as a "Mujer de la
Medicina." She is sought out in Mexico and the US as a healer,
spiritual teacher, storyteller and an important scholar in the ancient
and contemporary knowledge of the Virgin of Guadalupe, Dia de Los
Muertos, Semana Santa (Holy Week), Mexican Prehispanic myth and
stories, Prophecy of MesoAmerica.
Presently she is traveling a great deal to the US to give talks in the
indigenous voice on ancient MesoAmerica Prophecy as pertinent to these
times we are living. Maria Teresa also has an expertise in building
traditional altars (Dia de Los Muertos, Semana Santa, etc.) She has
worked with shamans in Mexico, Peru and Equador, as well as with
indigenous elders from the Mayan cultures of Guatamala and the United
States.
Maria Teresa currently lives in San Miguel de Allende, Guanjuato, Mexico
